2012 Costume Institute Gala: Less is more!

In a sea of wicked witches, vampires, nighties and prom dresses, more often than not the clothes wear the women at The Costume Institute Gala. While I always find these lavish looks entertaining, my mouth waters much more over the shorter cocktail looks and sleek pant suits found in the crowd. They look modern, chic and above all enhance not hide the wearer.

My Givenchy cat-eye frames

These black velvet Givenchy FW/2011 frames with bi-focal lenses are my first pair of glasses and I’m absolutely adoring them! They took awhile to get used to but after a week or so, I can’t tell you how happy I am to have crystal clear vision again.

Alabama Shakes

While listening to Q on my dog walk this morning, I had the pleasure of hearing the band Alabama Shakes do a live in studio performance. Now I know these guys aren’t new to the music scene and all but I’ve just discovered them so bare with my insane enthusiasm.

Not only do they ROCKKKKKK,  but singer Brittany Howards’ ridiculous talent and super natural all out feminine look is a nice antidote for women!

Great new music, a couple of beers in the sun and a blog photoshoot with my bro are making this one pretty great Saturday.

Montreal street artist Stikki Peaches

Remember when you were little and became obsessed with collecting the randomest little things? In my case, when I was 8 and living in France with my family, I  went bananas over these tiny plastic babies that were sold at corner stores. I would get such a thrill at the discovery of these babies that I’m shamed to admit I would do the full on foot stomping tantrum to get my Mom to buy them for me.  More often than not, I  would be totally and swiftly denied (parents today take note) but on the rare occasion that my Mom treated me to one, the pleasure and excitement at discovering which little baby character I would get as I tore open the packaging was utter bliss.

Where is all this going you ask? Well, ever since I got my dog (Rocky) I’ve been doing a lot of walking around my neighborhood (Plateau, Montreal) and have started collecting photos on my phone of graffiti by street artist Stikki Peaches. He caught my attention with his tagline What If Art Ruled The World? and not since my little babies obsession have I been this into hunting down and collecting something so I thought I’d share.

Here’s a trio of images I discovered on my walk today on Marie-Anne corner St-Laurent :

Princess Diana & Virgin Mary

Tintin & James Bond

Marilyn Monroe & Fidel Castro

Balmain Bullseye

As some of you may or may not know, I’ve recently been on the lookout for a wedding dress. Well, a couple of weeks ago, I laid eyes on this gorgeous Balmain dress that I thought just might be the right one.

The fit was gorgeous, the silk chiffon fabric scrumptious and delightful, the highly detailed ombre print to die for!

There was just one problem…

My over caffeinated shaky hand taking a shitty shot and

THE GIANT DEVILISH BULL HEAD ON MY CROTCH!

Seriously!!!!!!! Did one of the most beautiful dresses in the world really need a tramp stamp front and back! I even had a nightmare of myself trying to hide my bush with a bouquet at the altar so the dress really just had to go!

Olivier Rousteing, you broke my heart but I still love you.

The search for that perfect dress however, goes on …

Xx,

Jules
